Adding a Little Flow
Have you ever been in a home where you just felt claustrophobic? That’s because of small factors that you may not even be aware of. From automatic dog doors to privacy screens, there are a lot of solutions to the feeling that your house is constricting and oppressive. You need to work hard to make sure that your home is not one of these.
You need to make sure the flow between each room is completely free. You may not even realize that you have roadblocks between your rooms. If you can’t walk a straight line between each door then you need to rearrange your furniture.
Your windows are another consideration. You want to feel like our home is an extension of the world around it. Especially if you live in an area with a lot of greenery and nature, you should consider taking down any blinds you have and replacing them with light and airy curtains. Bringing a little greenery into your home can help this as well. Just make sure that any plants you have are safe for children and animals.
You need to have your doors to the outside for security purposes but, if you can, have those open and take any other doors in your home off their hinges. Screen doors are fairly good at keeping little kids and animals indoors. I you have children that you need to keep in but want pets to be free to roam then get cheap dog doors. Try to avoid having electric dog doors that open to the street or other public areas. You want to keep your animals from getting picked up by animal control.
You should make sure that there is plenty of natural light in your home but if that’s not possible then you should consider getting lights that replicate daylight. Fill your home with mirrors so that light gets used to the greatest efficiency.
These are just a few suggestions. These are just a starting point. The real work starts here.
